5th annual City of Water Day held at Coney Island Creek

A citywide event is bringing New Yorkers closer to nearby waterways to reconnect them to the resource and show them how to protect it.
The fifth annual City of Water Day is made possible by the Waterfront Alliance and brings dozens of community organizations and the Department of Parks and Recreation together to offer fun activities along the water.
Activities range from fishing lessons to potting hydroponic plants.
Visitors will also have access to information about hurricane rebuilding and preparedness.
“This water is very important to our survival,” says Pamela Petty John, of the Coney Island Rehabilitation Project. “It is a source of evacuation, recreation and health-wise."
Several similar water events are being held across the five boroughs.
