East Flatbush kicked off their "Occupy the Corner" series on Friday.
The event was held at Utica and Church Avenues and featured conversations on how to reduce violence in the community.
Organizers say they want residents to know that violence should not be the norm in the neighborhood.
"Our goal is to equip the community with the knowledge, the training, the education as we take back our streets from the plague of gun violence that's happening," said Monique Waterman.
"Occupy the Corner" will continue until the beginning of September.
