The site of an old roller rink in Kensington is now home to DiGilio Playground.
Brooklyn officials held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday to unveil the new and improved park. The $2.8 million project first initiated when former City Council member David Greenfield was in office. The playground is on a site that was once a roller skating rink, which Greenfield had said was hardly being used.
Now, it's been transformed into a play area with all brand-new equipment, including swings, bridges, slides and water sprinklers.
"There's a great sense of gratification when you come on a random Thursday in the summer and there are 40 kids playing on what would have been an empty hockey rink," says Greenfield.
The kids say they are so happy to have somewhere to play and run around with friends.
