A 27-year-old man is dead after the car he was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle going the wrong way on the Belt Parkway.
Police say 50-year-old Aleh Sheipak was driving drunk heading east in a Volkswagen SUV in the westbound lanes of the Belt Parkway near Exit 4 when he hit a Honda Accord head-on.
The 20-year-old driver of the Accord and Sheipak were taken to Maimonides Medical Center in stable condition. The two passengers in the Accord were taken to Lutheran Medical Center. Gerald Obah, 27, was sitting in the back seat and was pronounced dead at the hospital. A 29-year-old female passenger is in stable condition.
The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission tells News 12 that the driver of the Accord got his license in March and has a perfect driving record. TLC officials say it's unclear whether the driver was working or using the car for personal use. The car is affiliated with Uber-Grun.
Sheipak is charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, three counts of vehicular assault and DWI.
