Two Metropolitan Transportation Authority trains bumped into each other Thursday afternoon in Bridgeport.
The city said in a statement that the collision happened around 1:45 p.m. on the tracks between the Bridgeport train station and the Main Street overpass, right behind the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. It involved a Metro-North locomotive and a passenger train that was not in service.
Three workers suffered what were described as bumps and bruises. They were taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
During the incident, the tracks were shut down to all traffic for about a half-hour.
Residual delays through the station persisted into the evening commute. At one point, New Haven line customers were seeing backups of up to 45 minutes, and the Waterbury branch was delayed by up to 55 minutes.
