A Manhasset man has been charged with entering into a sexually charged chat with a person he believed was a child.
Police say Ashok Vora went online on Feb. 12 and contacted an undercover agent posing as an 11-year-old girl.
According to police, the 70-year-old professor at Baruch College then directed the agent to an online chat, exposed himself on a web camera and engaged in a sexual conversation.
An investigation led police to Vora's Hillcrest Avenue home where he was arrested on Tuesday.
Police say Vora used the username KevinNY. He was charged with disseminating indecent material to a minor.
Vora posted $5,000 bail after his arraignment and is due back in court Friday. Police are asking anyone contacted by him to call the Special Victims Unit at 516-573-4022.
The investigation was conducted by Nassau police and Homeland Security Investigations.
Baruch College released a statement saying that it “became aware yesterday of the arrest and arraignment of Dr. Ashok Vora, a professor in the Department of Economics and Finance. The College takes these charges very seriously, and we will fully cooperate with law enforcement authorities in their investigation.”
