The Fairfield Police Department taught local fifth-grade students how to prepare for an emergency.
The department teamed up with FEMA for a program which allowed students to take part in interactive classes and build their own supply kits to keep at home.
Fairfield Police Officer Lance Newkirchen said, “In this day and age, kids are obviously a lot more sophisticated with social media and they're growing up a lot quicker. And what we're trying to do is connect with them at an age that’s not too early but also not too old. Even though you're a child you can have a tremendous impact in the safety of not only your family at your own home, but also within your neighborhood."
