Crime is down throughout the city of New York, but there is a spike in the Bronx.
Mayor Bill de Blasio joined by police officials Tuesday to announce the crime stats and said they were seeing “some real progress.”
Although overall crime continues to decline through the first half of 2018, there has been a much different reality in the 40th and 48th precincts in the Bronx.
There were 13 murders in June, compared to six in June 2017.
Overall, shootings may have dropped in the Bronx, but the number of fatal shootings has increased. One of those incidents was a triple shooting in Castle Hill where no arrest was made.
There has also been a 30 percent increase of crimes associated with gang violence, like the death of 15-year-old Lesandro “Junior” Guzman-Feliz  and the stabbing of a 14-year-old on the Bronx River Parkway.
The NYPD says 70 percent of those suspected of committing crimes are being arrested. Commissioner James O'Neill has vowed to increase police presence where it’s most needed, singling out the 40th and 48th precincts.
