Republican Rep. Dan Donovan is vying to fend off former Rep. Michael Grimm in the 11th Congressional District for this year's GOP nomination.
The district includes Staten Island and southern Brooklyn. 
Donovan, a former prosecutor, currently serves as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response and Communications.
He says he wants to cut government spending.
And he wants to address mental health issues to avert mass shootings.
