New security measures are set to go into place at Lakewood schools after two students were found with a gun.
Two students, aged 9 and 10 years old, are facing gun charges after video apparently showed them with a weapon on a school bus Tuesday.
Investigators say they then brought it into Oak Street Elementary School.
Following a meeting with the superintendent, district principals and Lakewood Police Department, school officials say that they were given the go-ahead to buy metal detectors for elementary schools.
The district's middle and high schools already have metal detectors.
The devices will be in schools within 10 days and will cost just under $30,000.
Also, beginning July 1, only transparent backpacks will be allowed.
