Some Hicksville residents say town officials are not doing enough to fix hazardous potholes in their community.
Jim Barry, who lives on Charles Street, says he has had enough with the poor road conditions surrounding his home.
“We are really getting tired of pothole after pothole,” says Barry. “We pay a lot in taxes. We deserve better roads.”
Barry says the roads are littered with makeshift patches, loose gravel and chunks of tar.
Michael Nunziata, who lives on Kraemer Road, says the roads in his area have been ignored by the town of Oyster Bay for the past 20 years. He says the poor maintenance and the crumbling roads cost him two axels on his car.
The town of Oyster Bay responded Tuesday by sending a crew to do a quick fix. Spokesman Brian Nevin says that a long-term plan is in place to fix the roads.
“Help is on the way in the next year and a half,” says Nevin.
He says during that time, 93 miles of roadway in Oyster Bay will be repaved. Nevin could not guarantee that Kraemer Road and Charles Street were on that list, but conceded that they were in “desperate need of repair.”
Anyone who would like to report a pothole to the town of Oyster Bay can do so by calling 516-677-5757.
