Rep. Bruce Morris held a press conference in front of Norwalk City Hall Wednesday to announce he is retiring.

After serving the 140th District for 12 years, Rep. Morris says he will not seek re-election due to health complications following a surgery for cancer last year.

"My life has always been about public service, before I ever ran for state representative," he said. "After, I really know that I've done the right things for myself healthfully, I'll continue to get involved in all the different issues in the city and wherever I can best serve."

In a statement Sen. Bob Duff said, "Deputy Speaker Bruce Morris has spent his career in the General Assembly fighting on behalf of Norwalk families. He has been a champion for economic justice, affordable housing and the right of every child to have a quality education. I will always value our time spent working together on behalf of the city that we both love."

Rep. Morris said he will continue to be a preacher in outreach ministry.
