Utility workers continued efforts Wednesday to restore power to thousands of Brookfield customers who lost it to severe weather a day earlier.
Eversource said 100 percent of its Brookfield customers were knocked off line by the storm. Gov. Dannel Malloy said repairs could take days. Officials said they were still working on a more accurate timeline.
Dozens of roads remained closed with trees and power lines blocking the way.
Dayle Knapp, of Knapp Tree Inc., said his tree removal crews couldn't clear the streets until utility workers take care of the wires.
"It's very dangerous," he said.
Authorities say residents and drivers should avoid going near downed or sagging power lines, and staying off the roads will help crews get done more quickly.
Eversource said more than 70,000 of its overall customers have already had their power restored -- but there were another 79,000 to go.
Eversource says customers should report outages at its website or by calling 800-286-2000.
