Police: Boy killed by truck in Garfield had recently moved to town

Garfield police say that the boy who was struck and killed by a box truck while riding his bicycle Tuesday had recently moved to the town with his family.
Police say that the boy was 12 years old but declined to release his name. Officials originally reported that the boy was 11. Police also say that the child's family was in the process of enrolling him into the Garfield School District. Grief counselors were on hand Wednesday for students.
The driver of the truck that struck the boy stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, according to authorities. Officials say that no charges have been filed against the driver.
The crash happened around 1:15 p.m. near Lanza and Pleasant Avenues, near a popular deli.
