Norwalk Community College hosts Fresh Check Day

Norwalk Community College is working to end the stigma surrounding mental illness by holding its 4th Annual Fresh Check Day this past Wednesday.

The interactive mental health fair encouraged students to talk about depression, suicide prevention and other issues students may face.

School officials say educating students on the issues is key.
“It’s extremely important that we check in with our college students,” said Lisa Slade, a mental health counselor. “When you add often times the structures of academics, it can also exacerbate some of the metal health symptoms that students are already carrying with them.”
Students were able to connect with mental health professional and receive any services they need at the event.
