A Norwalk woman started a petition to block a proposal that would turn a Norwalk parking lot into an apartment complex.
Businesses and residents rely on the parking lot on Wall Street. They say a redevelopment plan to sell the land to a developer in order to build an apartment complex would cause a lot of problems and hurt business.
Jackie Lightfield, of Norwalk, started the petition and says more than 420 people have signed it. Lightfield says she's been at odds for more than a decade over the idea that building apartments could take the place of the parking lot.
The owners of Connecticut Surgical say if they lose the lot it could really hurt their business. They say the parking was one of the reasons they chose to open their business on Wall Street.
Norwalk officials and the developer say the petition is premature. A spokesperson for the developer says negotiations are on the back burner, but adds that if the project were to move ahead improved parking would be part of the plan.
