JERSEY CITY -

An investigation is underway after a local baseball coach was found dead in a park in Jersey City.

Police were called about an assault in Pershing Field Park around 8 a.m. Sunday morning, and when they arrived they found 77-year-old Anthony Bello with stab wounds in his stomach, the county prosecutor's office says.

Bello was well-known in the area for motivating athletes over many years.

A bench near where the stabbing occurred has become a memorial from those who knew Bello.

Police are still looking for a suspect who reportedly took off after the altercation and stabbing.
