Final efforts to reduce noise from the new Mario Cuomo Bridge started today in South Nyack.
According to the Thruway Authority, Tappan Zee Constructors are treating the barriers with sound-absorbing material so there's less traffic noise for the surrounding community.
Construction started today, lasting from 10 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
South Broadway in South Nyack will experience temporary lane closures during the work, and the Thruway Authority is warning drivers to be prepared.
There is no official word yet on how long construction on the barriers will last, but it is part of ongoing work to finalize the new bridge.
Tappan Zee Constructors is also working on installing a new roadway on the Westchester side of the bridge. That work will cause northbound lane closures starting at 7 p.m. all this week.
