A groundbreaking ceremony for the future site of affordable housing was held Friday in Williamsbridge.
Officials broke ground on the vacant lot at 839 Tillden St. for the future site of the Sydney House.
Named after a public official in the Bronx, it will be the first of its kind as the largest family dwelling building for the nonprofit group Habitat for Humanity.
The project will be financed privately and publicly, according to officials. And it will feature 56 affordable housing units geared toward families.
Available units will include one-, two- and three-bedroom co-op apartments.
"As New York gets bigger and better we need to find ways to make sure people can afford to stay here," Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. says.
The project is expected to be complete by fall 2019.
