A Paterson school transformed itself into a “Dr. Seuss wonderland” to celebrate the beloved author’s 109th birthday and the “Read Across America” event.
Paterson School No. 21 Principal Joanne Riviello says that the school had something special planned each day of “Read Across America” week, which celebrates reading in the classroom.
Some Paterson firefighters were on hand to read to the children. There was even a special appearance by the Cat in the Hat.
“I think it's wonderful we are celebrating about Dr. Seuss because he’s a very popular reader and his books are amazing to teach children about,” said sixth-grader Norma Echeverrio.
School No. 21 is known as a “turnaround school.” Principal Riviello says that the school made huge improvements and achievements in recent years.
Many New Jersey schools are hosting special events for “Read Across America” week.
