6-year-old CT child dies of flu complications

A 6-year-old Connecticut child has died of complications from the flu, officials say.
The child was a first-grade student at Columbus Magnet School in Norwalk.
In a statement, Columbus Magnet School Principal Medard Thomas said the child died unexpectedly Sunday morning. He said counselors will be available at Columbus Magnet to help children, staff and parents process the tragedy.
It comes amid a particularly bad flu season that has claimed the lives of at least 84 children across the country. It marks at least the second flu-related pediatric death in Connecticut this season. A 10-year-old New Canaan boy died of flu complications last month.
In his statement, Thomas said that he has asked for a deep cleaning to be completed before the school reopens on Tuesday as a precaution, amid the relentless flu season.
