The final three defendants were sentenced Thursday for their roles in a deadly 2013 carjacking at the Mall at Short Hills.
Hanif Thompson, Kevin Roberts and Karif Ford all pleaded guilty to various charges, including murder, carjacking and conspiracy, to their respective roles in a carjacking that left 30-year-old Hoboken lawyer Dustin Friedland dead.
In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to sentence Thompson, the gunman, to 30 years in state prison before he's eligible for parole. The judge handed down that sentence to Thompson late Thursday morning.
Friedland’s widow, Jamie Friedland, addressed Thompson in court prior to his sentencing.
“What do I say to the person who tore my dreams away from me? Tore my future away from me? Tore my love away from me? Left me screaming all alone in a parking structure holding my husband, bloodied with the blood of all my hopes and dreams?” she said.
Thompson will be on parole for five years after he serves his 30-year sentence. He has 45 days to file an appeal.
Prosecutors recommended that Roberts and Ford each serve 17 out of their 20-year prison sentences before parole. They were each sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison.
Basim Henry, the getaway driver, was sentenced to life in prison in June after being convicted in a jury trial.
