A new Caribbean restaurant in Brooklyn is bringing some sweet and spicy flavors to the borough.
Negril BK just opened on 5th Avenue in Park Slope in December.
But customers are already hungry for more.
Owner Malissa Browne describes the menu as a nice mixture between spicy and sweet.
The restaurant offers Caribbean-infused dishes, including jerk lamb meatballs, rotisserie jerk chicken, and even jerked oysters.
"When you come into Negril BK, you're not going to get your regular dishes. Yea, you'll have your staples, the oxtail, the rice and beans, curry chicken. However, we have a dish in particular, it's ackee and saltfish, made into spring rolls. So a little bit of innovation there," Browne says.
Chef Kingsley John says he adds a little personality and a lot of technique to transform traditional island eats into unique fusions of flavor.
"Every dish for me should be a 'wow.' Every dish, I give 100 percent from start to finish for what I'm trying to accomplish in that dish," Kingsley says.
The ambiance in the dining room offers a side of cool to help Negril BK transform a meal into an experience.
"I like the decor, the staff is pretty awesome, the food is really good," a customer says.
