The Urban Assembly Unison School in Clinton Hill has received more than $1 million from City Councilwoman Laurie Combo that will allow students to grow 25,000 pounds of produce every year.
The middle school students will cook for PTA meetings and share the food with P.S. 56, as well as the parents of students there.
Urban Assembly is one of seven schools receiving funds from Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams' Growing Brooklyn's Future Initiative. More than $7 million in capital money will be divided so schools in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bergen Beach, Brownsville, Gravesend and Sheepshead Bay can build greenhouses and rooftop gardens.
Urban Assembly says it plans on building a state-of-the-art greenhouse as soon as possible.
