Man thrown off bridge in Shelton, suffers serious injuries

A man was taken to a hospital Thursday with serious injuries after he was thrown off a bridge during an altercation, the Shelton Police Department said.
Officials said the Shelton Police Department and the Shelton Fire Department responded around 1 a.m. to the Derby Shelton Bridge on a report of a man in the water.  
First responders were able to rescue the 30-year-old victim from Monroe who was found submerged in the water. Officials said Shelton Officer David Eldridge swam out to the victim and quickly pulled him to shore with the assistance of fire personnel. 
The man was immediately taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for treatment of injuries described as serious.
Police said they learned the man was thrown into the water during an altercation on the bridge.
