Police: Drunken driver hit 2 pedestrians in Norwalk

Norwalk police say a driver is facing DUI charges after hitting two pedestrians early Wednesday morning.
Police say a man and woman were standing near a parked car at West Avenue and Orchard Street around 1 a.m. when a drunken driver hit them and the car. The victims were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, although police say they were conscious while being transported.
Police say the driver, 31-year-old Walter Veliz, of Norwalk, was headed southbound on West Avenue at the time of the crash. They say that when officers arrived, he was found unharmed. It's unclear from where he was headed. Officials say he failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody.
Police say Veliz was driving without a license in addition to being drunk.
Veliz had his bond set at $75,000.
