Bronx senior center holds healthy cooking demo

A senior center in Kingsbridge is doing its part to change the Bronx's distinction of being New York City's "unhealthiest borough."
Quinoa casserole and coconut spinach soup were two items on the menu at the Bailey Senior Center's healthy cooking demo Tuesday.
The attendees spent the afternoon enjoying healthy food and learning how to make better lifestyle choices.
"Eating is the most important thing because when you eat good, you feel good," said chef Marie Haly.
Global wellness agency Havas Health and You partnered with the center's chef on World Diabetes Day, bringing in doctors to better-educate the seniors about the disease.
"One of the ways to prevent diabates is to be aware of what your blood sugar levels are," said medical director Chris Dascher. "Getting a test with your doctor. Get diagnosed. A lot of people have diabetes and don't even know it."
