Best of the Bronx: Cake decorator places at national competition

A cake decorator from the Bronx recently placed at her first national competition.
Brittany Lombardi started off as an artist, but says she did not want to focus her work exclusively on drawing or painting.
She says she wanted to create art from food and at just 24 years old, Lombardi has already worked as a pastry chef at some of the hottest restaurants in the city.
Eventually she honed her culinary skills to create decorative cakes for her own clients.
"It's always different, I don't like the same thing every day," she says.
She's whipped up everything from half-birthday cakes to tiered tower wedding cakes.
In October of 2017, she placed third at her first competition competing against 21 other chefs. The complex confection she submitted took her three months to make.
"It was a really great feeling. It was like, wow, I'm really capable of doing this for a living. I'm going down the right path, it can only get better from here," she says.
She says she dreams of opening her own cake shop one day.
