More than 100 residents attended a town hall meeting Wednesday to discuss a homeless shelter that is scheduled to open at 233 Landing Road before the end of this year.
The site of the shelter was brought to Community Board 7 in 2014, but many residents at Wednesday's meeting said they only recently found out about the scheduled opening.
The shelter will house 200 men, who must have some form of employment and at have some point lived in the University Heights area. It will also serve as transitional housing for one year, and the residents will have strict curfews.
The Bowery Residents Committee, which will be overseeing the site and providing their clients with outreach programs, have agreed to meet with the community in January to discuss any other concerns they may have after the shelter is open.
News 12 reached out to the Department of Homeless Services for a comment about the project and is awaiting a response.
