A Manhasset day care worker faces charges of attempted assault and endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly slapping a 1-year-old girl several times last month.
Police say Jeanine Sammis, of Hewlett, was seen slapping the little girl in the back of the head at KinderCare on Northern Boulevard.
After learning of the alleged assault, KinderCare management alerted police, authorities say.
Police arrested Sammis, 36, Thursday, and she is due back in court on Tuesday.
KinderCare told News 12 that Sammis is no longer a teacher there. They also said that, "We take all concerns about our teachers and staff seriously and follow a very specific protocol any time a concern is raised."
A staff member at Brooklyn Hebrew Academy confirmed to News 12 that Sammis worked there as a teacher years ago but wouldn't comment on her arrest.
