Police say they caught an apparently homeless felon trying to break into a home on Brooklawn Terrace in Fairfield Wednesday morning.
The say Markus Denzel Smith, 22, admitted to trying unlocked doors, looking for an opportunity to get inside. He also told them he was homeless.
"He was in that area pulling on door handles and looking for something to steal," says Lt. Robert Kalamaras, of the Fairfield Police Department. "He basically gave most of that information up, on why he was there and what he was doing."
Police say they also found a backpack with a loaded handgun, but they say they believe Smith had the gun for protection.
He's being held on $500,000 bond.
