The lower deck of the George Washington Bridge will be closed until 8 a.m. Sunday morning while the Port Authority conducts large emergency response drills.
The Port Authority says it will be using simulated smoke and emergency vehicles throughout the drill.
Similar drills have been performed recently both at the Lincoln Tunnel and at Newark Airport.
The goal is to give emergency responders real-time experience on routes that are normally too busy to access unless there is a crisis to respond to.
Officials say commuters can expect delays on the bridge Sunday morning.
