Anti-violence group marches after recent Allerton shootings

Posted: Updated:
ALLERTON -

The group Stand Up to Violence marched Thursday in Allerton after two people were killed in recent shootings.

The group organized the march with state Sen. Jeff Klein and representatives from Jacobi Medical Center.

A 29-year-old was fatally shot in the neck on White Plains Road in late September. On Oct. 1, a 41-year-old died after being shot in the torso and arm on Williamsbridge Road.

More than two dozen people marched in the streets, saying they hope their message of peace will help deter future gun violence in the community.

Klein says Stand Up to Violence has reduced gun violence in some communities by as much as 70 percent.

Stand Up to Violence is overseen by Jacobi Medical Center, with funding to the program directed by Klein.
