More than 5,000 people from around the city rallied Monday to protest Mayor Bill de Blasio and what they call broken promises when it comes to creating and repairing affordable housing.

East Brooklyn Congregations and the Metro Industrial Areas Foundation, groups that advocate for affordable housing, say they would like to see the city build 15,000 new units for seniors on New York City Housing Authority properties.

The groups also want repairs to current NYCHA apartments and for the mayor to keep his promise to build more affordable housing.

A spokesperson for the mayor's office say they agree that it is good policy to build affordable housing on NYCHA land. They say a plan is in the works and is part of NextGeneration NYCHA, which aims to build 10,000 affordable housing units on NYCHA property.
