New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio joined local leaders and a Department of Transportation crew to continue the city's effort to repave roadways.
De Blasio took a shovel in hand along Valentine Avenue and East 180th Street Friday morning, a stretch that neighbors say was in desperate need of attention.
Since 2014, the DOT says it has paved one in four streets in New York City, patching up 1.5 million potholes in the process.
October begins the so-called "paving postseason" where workers put in big efforts to fix roads before the cold and messy weather sets in for the winter.
According to AAA, the taxpayer dollars spent on these efforts helps protect drivers, with pothole damage costing drivers $3 billion per year.
