Westchester-bound traffic shifts to new bridge

Westchester-bound traffic shifted to the first span of the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge Friday night.
Commuters faced delays and multiple lane and ramp closures in both directions, with some closures lasting until 10 a.m. Saturday.
The bridge is operational to four lanes of traffic while its second span is being completed. All exit ramps have also reopened.
Some drivers said they hope the traffic pattern gets better and that people stop driving so aggressively.

"We travel over the old bridge for years and years and years," said Tom Fisher of Tarrytown. "And we are looking forward to traveling over the new one soon."
Demolition of the old bridge will begin Oct. 10 and will last up to four weeks.
The second span of the new bridge is scheduled to open sometime next year.
