Election Day is a little more than a month away, and the candidates in New Jersey’s governor’s race are ramping up their attack ads.
Polls still show Democrat Phil Murphy several points ahead of his Republican rival Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno, but neither side seems to be afraid to go after the other.
Guadagno has been campaigning heavily on her plan to lower property taxes. Her most recent ads tout her "circuit breaker" plan to cap the amount that homeowners pay on the school portion of their tax bills.
Her "Break" ad makes the point that New Jersey families deserve a tax break, but that Murphy has pledged to pay for his new spending plans with a $1.3 billion tax hike.
Meanwhile, Murphy's ads go straight to the point that he's hit from the beginning - tying Guadagno to the man she's worked alongside for nearly eight years.
He says she's another chapter of the "Christie Playbook." Murphy has been trying to sink Gudagno with Christie's unpopularity for some time.
There are even more ads paid for by political action committees that take a more creative approach to the campaign season by borrowing from Hollywood.
