Republican mayoral candidate Nicole Malliotakis campaigned in the Bronx Thursday, taking aim at incumbent Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio's policies toward senior citizens.
Malliotakis stood outside St. Benedict's Roman Catholic Church in Throgs Neck, to call out de Blasio for what she says is a lack of attention being paid to a growing demographic in the Bronx.
Malliotakis says the de Blasio administration has put seniors on the back burner, despite what she says is a large increase in overall spending in the city's budget.
In response, de Blasio's office said, "The claim isn't supported by the facts. Funding for senior programs has gone up 60 percent since the mayor took office."
