The doors have closed at a West Babylon bar that some say was a magnet for crime and gang activity.
The New York State Liquor Authority issued an emergency suspension for Maggies' liquor license.
West Babylon resident Jay McGraw says he has been filing complaints with the Town of Babylon for the past two years. The town has received a slew of complaints about the bar and its patrons, including allegations of gambling, gang activity, drug activity, shots fired and excessive noise.
"Bars like this, we don't need them in the neighborhood. Nobody wants them," McGraw says.
After an investigation, the SLA charged the owners of the bar with 33 violations of alcohol laws.
Maggie's has been shut down since last Friday. The Town of Babylon's Fire Marshal Office issued 10 violations of its own when it inspected the bar.
In a statement, the office told News 12, "Public assembly space has to have a valid permit in order for groups to assemble. It's not currently fit for public assembly use."
Neighboring business owners say they're glad to see that Maggie's is gone.
''The neighborhood is good now, you know what I'm saying, without them," says barbershop owner Teroy Little.
The bar has been shut down indefinitely. The owners could appeal the decision in court.
