Students at the College of Mount St. Vincent marched on campus and held a vigil to protest the decision to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.
They say people brought into the United States by their parents at a young age deserve to stay here.
Brother Christian, one of the organizers of the event, says there is a large immigrant population at the school.
"The College at Mount Vincent is an extremely diverse community. We have students from all over the world, and naturally President Trump's decision to rescind DACA will inevitably affect some of them, if not them directly, then their families in one form or another. So we thought this would be a great moment to show solidarity and support for our students, but also for our immigrant brothers and sisters all over the country," he says.
Students who attended the event also were singing and sharing their stories of the immigration experience.
According to event organizers, the College of Mount St. Vincent has a large immigrant population. They say they don't know exactly how many people on campus are affected by DACA, but they are worried the decision to rescind the program could halt the progress of some students seeking potentially promising careers.
The event featured a moment of prayer and silence, as well as readings from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
