The Department of Transportation and state Sen. Simcha Felder on Thursday unveiled new LED safety lights along McDonald Avenue.
The new lights brighten both the streets and the sidewalk.
A total of 94 new lights have already been installed along McDonald Avenue from Ditmas Avenue to Bay Parkway.
Felder tells News 12 that his constituents brought to his attention the need for better lighting under the elevated railways.
Safety in the area has been a concern. In July, a fatal car accident happened at the intersection of McDonald and Ditmas avenues. Officials believe the improved lighting will reduce the number of accidents in the area.
The DOT says it wants to bring the LED lights to other areas as well. There are plans to install similar lighting to sidewalks under other elevated roads and railways in the borough soon.
