Saks OFF 5th celebrated its grand opening Thursday at the Bay Plaza Shopping Center.

The store fills the space where the last Barnes & Noble in the Bronx stood.

For months, many residents said they were afraid that trading books for designer looks would hurt the borough, but crowds of shoppers came out to see the new store and said they were happy that it opened.

The store is about 25,000 square feet. It’s located next to Kmart and across from the Bay Plaza Mall.

It offers more than 800 different designers for women, men and children.
