Red Cross, Salvation Army accept donations for Hurricane Harvey relief

Residents in New Jersey can help with the disaster relief in Texas as Hurricane Harvey plummets the state.
Officials say the best thing residents can do - if they are not trained volunteers deployed on the ground - is send money.
The two largest and trusted organizations are the Red Cross and Salvation Army. They provide shelter, fresh drinking water, food, toiletries, clothing and other necessities to those in need.
After the storm passes, both organizations will be involved in the recovery.
Help people affected by Hurricane Harvey by visiting Redcross.org, calling 1- 800-RED CROSS or texting the word HARVEY to 90999 to make a $10 donation.Another way to help is to donate blood and replenish the Red Cross's supply.
The Red Cross's blood bank makes up about 40 percent of the nation's blood supply, and blood is shipped across the nation.
Animal lovers can also help orphaned pets in the path of Harvey. Local animal organizations are taking in animals and are asking for donations for supplies, including the SPCA of Texas and Austin Pets Alive.
