The first total solar eclipse to sweep across the United States in decades prompted many groups of spectators to gather and watch the phenomenon together.

The library in Clinton Hill hosted one such watch party. 

The moon crossed in front of the sun from roughly 1:23 to 4 p.m., blocking out about 70 percent of its light. In other parts of the country, where the moon fully blocked out the sun, the result was complete darkness.

The next solar eclipse visible in Brooklyn will be in April 2024.
