As hurricane season gets underway, the city Office of Emergency Management is working on ways to reduce flooding along the Red Hook waterfront.
The OEM spent Monday installing interim flood protection measures, or temporary flood protections like barriers along part of Beard Street.
They come in the form of Hesco bags -- large sandbags that weigh as much as 2,000 pounds.
The temporary measures will remain in place for about five years as the city looks for a permanent solution to flooding in the neighborhood.
