Organizers and players of a basketball tournament walked in to Lafayette Park Saturday to find hateful graffiti sprayed on a handball court.
The graffiti used an expletive and had showed "KKK" written within the word "America." Underneath that was written, "The KKK wore a toupee today."
The Fun in the Park event is held in memory of Gregory and Harry Jocko, two influential community members in Brownsville.
The New York City Parks Department said in a statement, "Parks staff noticed the graffiti on Lafayette Ave. yesterday afternoon and sent crews to paint over the graffiti this morning once the rain had stopped. NYPD has been notified."
The NYPD says it is investigating the incident has a possible bias crime.
No arrests have been made.
