Confederate statues removed from Bronx Community College

Two confederate statues have been removed from Bronx Community College campus, school officials announced Friday.
The busts depicting the confederate Army General Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson were removed from the college's Hall of Fame for Great Americans.
The hall is used to display historical figures like Benjamin Franklin and Abraham Lincoln.
However, two marble stands now sit empty inside the hall.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo called for communities around New York to begin removing confederate statues, and plaques from landmarks as a result of the deadly white supremacist rally in Charlottesville last weekend.
In a statement posted to the school's website, Bronx Community College President Thomas A. Isekenegbe wrote "Embracing difference includes creating space where all people feel respected, welcomed, and valued."
School officials say they will eventually replace the busts, however, they did not specify which with what historical figures would take the confederate statues place.
