Funeral Mass held for Gerritsen Beach firefighter

Family and friends gathered Saturday to pay their respects to a firefighter who died from cancer related to the work he did after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Retired firefighter Michael Duffy worked with Ladder 174 in East Flatbush and helped out at Ground Zero after the Sept. 11 attacks.
He passed away on Aug. 8 after battling two forms of cancer related to the work he did there.
People describe the Gerritsen Beach man as a prankster and the life of the party who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in a time of need.
Duffy was laid to rest in his hometown at Green Wood Cemetery.
