Nassau lawmakers call for South Shore ferry to NYC

Several Nassau County lawmakers are calling for another option to get commuters into the city.
Sen. Todd Kaminsky and Assemblywoman Melissa Miller signed a letter Sunday asking the MTA chairman to explore several sites on Long Island's South Shore to establish a Manhattan-bound ferry route.
Currently, there are ferry routes that run from Glen Cove as well as Long Island City and Hunterspoint that all go to Manhattan. The ferry services were set up to accommodate riders who are affected by the current disruptions in train service during the Penn Station renovations.
The Glen Cove ferry service is expected to end in September.
Advocates of the new ferry routes say they feel they have ample parking available and that the idea would provide commuters with more choices.
Authorities say the ferry could accommodate hundreds of commuters and they're looking into the cost of the project.
News 12 reached out the MTA regarding the potential ferry route and is awaiting a response.
