For the past eight years, Madei Williams – also known as the "Mad Quarterback Coach" – has privately tutored some of New Jersey's top arms.
It's a full-time job for the 37-year-old, who once thought he would pursuit information technology as a career path.
"I realized, after I was already deep into the major, that was not what I wanted to do," says Williams.
The Pennsylvania native used to be a quarterback at Syracuse, but did not make it to the NFL.
"That's when I began to transition to plan B," he says.
He met Devin Fuller – a star quarterback at Old Tappan and now playing in the NFL. It created a chain reaction of other top prospects. He's trained Brandon Wimbush from Saint Peter's Prep to Notre Dame. And now New Jersey has its eyes on Johnathan Lewis – a freshman at Rutgers competing for the starting job.
If he fails, Williams says he shoulders some of the blame.
"It's up to the coach to correct those bad habits and that's what we've been able to do progressively over the last three years," says Williams.
